Проект Easy English был создан специально для изучающих английский. Авторы задают небольшие вопросы жителям британских городов, чтобы мы выучили новые фразы и просто познакомились с особенностями британского произношения.

    Glossary:
1 - 'Now then' is a Yorkshire way of saying 'hello'.
2 - 'mint' in this case is a slang word for 'great', 'cool' or 'awesome'.
3 - 'dunno' is a very common shortening of 'don't know'.
4 - 'kinda' is a very common shortening of 'kind of'.
5 - 'in't it?' - the 's' in the word 'isn't' is commonly left out.
6 - Herberts on a night - Herberts is not a common term, but in this case we believe he is implying they are intolerant people. But if any of you have a more specific definition of the term then feel free to comment below!
'On a night' is a northern phrase for 'in the evening' or 'at night time'.
7 - 'rough' in this case means 'aggressive'.
8 - 'cotton wool wrapped' - this phrase implies that people are very heavily protected from anything which may be dangerous or 'different

    Glossary:
1 - 'gunna' is a common shortening of 'going to'.
2 - 'dreary' town in this sense means kind of grey, not lively, dull...
3 - 'buzz around the streets' means when the streets are busy and there is a lively atmosphere. It's kind of funny that the guy saying was the most unenthusiastic person we spoke to!
4 - 'Sheff United' is a shorter name for Sheffield United, one of the two main football clubs in Sheffield.
5 - 'Blades' is the nickname for Sheffield United (coming from the city's main tradition industry - steel).
5 - (Sorry, I accidentally had two 5s) 'cause' is the quicker way of sayimg 'because'.
6 - 'cking hell - he was actually swearing and saying 'fucking hell', but the first half of the word can often be left out to leave just 'cking hell'
7 - 'all parking out' - in Yorkshire it is common to abbreviate 'preposition + the'

    Glossary:

1 - 'more wilder' is incorrect, it should be 'wilder' or 'more wild'.
2 - 'bits and bobs' is a phrase for lots of small things. In this case he is probably meaning that he has been going out to small events here and there, and but not really big nights out.
3 - 'DIY' means Do It Yourself.
4 - 'rough' in this case means 'aggressive'.
5 - 'day bird' would be someone who prefers to do things in the day rather than in the evening or night.
6 - 'wankers' is an offensive term for... hmm... not very nice people! (This comes from the slang verb 'to wank', which is 'to masturbate' - so a wanker would more literally be someone who masturbates, but the insult is not literatal in its usage.)
7 - it is common in English to call someone 'love', regardless of if you even know them, nevermind how much affection of have for them. Although it is more common.
